Lampard on the performance…
“It is what I wanted, I think we wanted to win the game first and foremost. At half-time, we had a lot of control and I think probably our final third play, which is to be expected at the moment, in the period that we were in was not bright enough, not enough movement or penetration. I think in the second half that changed and we got a very good win.
What were your thoughts on Ben Chilwell’s performance?
“I thought Ben Chilwell was fantastic in his contribution in all senses. I thought he got his goal, assists, his defensive play, his engine to arrive into attack from that left-hand side and he is always ready to join in all the time. Getting up and down, considering the injury he has had. With Ben, he is Premier League ready, you could see that with as well as he has done for Leicester. He looked like he had played with us for a long time.”
Tammy Abraham wanted to take the penalty, Azpilicueta took the ball off him and gave it to the usual taker Jorginho?
“Yes, I can clear it up, I think Tammy with maybe his youthful exuberance and the performance that he had in the game that was very good, made a bit of a mistake and he wanted to take the penalty. It is not [right]. We have a designated penalty taker and you saw it with the first penalty. It has been dealt with in the dressing room but no problem either.”
Edouard speaking French to defence except Chilwell?
“I don’t know about Ben learning it and it has been a long time since I spoke French at school. I think it is a position we are in. Edou speaks good English too, to be fair. It is the position we are in with Kurt and Thiago straight in front of him that he can speak French, Azpi does as well. But, I think we will get there very quickly with that. The organisation and focus of the back four, plus Edou today was very good regardless of language and it is a big bonus for us because we know we are bringing new players into the team. The back five is where you want to be solid and you want to see it settle quickly. Today, it looked good.”
Thought’s on Callum Hudson-Odoi’s performance and future?
“I think Callum’s performance today, especially in the second half when he was more aggressive and getting at the full-back on the outside, because he has the ability on the ball and the pace to do that and put crosses into the box, which he can absolutely do. Callum is absolutely part of my plans here. We have Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech injured before Christian came back in today. We need options and what Callum showed today and the second half against West Brom is exactly what he needs to show. I am pleased with him.”
Christian Pulisic earned himself the number ten shirt.
“I think Christian had a breakthrough season for us in the goals and assists, the highest he has made in his career. So I think we are all excited about the levels Christian can go on to. He had a bad injury. It was a grade 2 hamstring, which is difficult to come back from. He is champing at the bit and desperate to get back in the team. We managed to get ten minutes today and we really want these next two weeks to be a real time to build up his fitness and get him ready for the next games. He has earned the number ten shirt for how he has played.”
Hudson-Odoi, can you give a definitive answer on if he will stay?
“There is no definitive answer. By Monday we will know the answer. They might have declared their interest, which is one thing, but as I have just said there in terms of the squad, everything that happens by Monday will be things that are firstly good for us as a club because Callum is our player, and what Callum wants comes into consideration. It has to be right for everybody. At the minute I want Callum as part of my squad, especially with what he offered up today and the second half against West Brom. That is where I am at.”
