Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Manchester United should have tried to sign Thomas Partey before Arsenal.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, stretching all the way back to before the summer window even opened, but will cost his full £45m release clause.
However, with just a few hours remaining until the window closes, time is running out for the Gunners to seal a late deal for the Ghana international.
It appears now the combative midfielder will become an Arsenal player, with Partey undergoing a medical in Spain whilst the legal team deal with paying his £45million exit fee.
Manchester United, meanwhile, continue to struggle to strengthen their squad, although Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles are expected to be confirmed before the 11pm deadline.
At centre-back and in midfield they remain weak though, according to Agbonlahor, who believes United should be trying to hijack a deal.
“It’s massive for Arsenal, they’re weak in the middle, everyone can see that,” he told Sky Sports.
“He’s a player that Manchester United should try and steal the deal, for me, if they could. He’s that player that you need.
“We talk about Everton and Allan, they’ve got that player who will sniff out danger and tidy up, and that’s what Partey can do.”
