Chelsea had a number of players they were considering getting rid of in this window, but it seems Callum Hudson-Odoi wasn’t one of them.
Bayern Munich made a loan offer with a £70m purchase option, according to the Guardian, but that wasn’t enough to convince the Blues to sell.
One person who can’t understand that decision is Alan Hudson, who used to play for the club. In an exclusive interview with CaughtOffside, he pointed out that the winger had not been in great form for some time, and perhaps Chelsea had made a mistake in not taking the German side up on their offer:
“I have watched this player on several occasions and on that evidence I would snap off the hand of anyone wanting to pay that kind of money,” Hudson commented.
“I watched him against a very poor Crystal Palace side at the weekend and he looked like he was playing for the losing side he was so ineffective,” he continued.
He’s right that Crystal Palace wasn’t Callum’s best game, and in fact it’s been some time since we saw him scaring defenders with his pace and dribbling.
Still, selling him to Bayern wouldn’t have helped our squad in any case. We fully back the decision to let him have another year here building up his confidence, trying to get back to be the superb player we all know he can be.
